Welcome to FoodLink NE
Your gateway to Aberdeenshire’s small scale food producers providing fresh, nutritious, healthy food that is good for you as well as the planet

What is it all about?
FoodLink NE is a social enterprise that was set up in 2025 to create a real alternative food system in Aberdeenshire.
A passionate team of local producers and partners are leading this exciting project as a collaboration between The James Hutton Institute, Fair Food Aberdeenshire, NESCAN, members of The Landworkers Alliance, and The Mixing Bowl Aberdeen. Many months of informal conversations culminated in the formation of a working group.
In May 2024 the team started to map out the scope of the project in a comprehensive study by identifying the critical support small scale producers need if they are to upscale production and feed more people in Aberdeenshire.

Growing numbers of small scale producers believe deeply in the use of nature friendly farming principles because they care about their soils, the welfare of their livestock, their impact on biodiversity, the quality of their produce and the health of those who eat it. They do not use pesticides, herbicides or routine antibiotics and they minimise packaging where possible.
While this is clearly the right course to take, following this ethos is very labour intensive and requires significant knowledge, skill and dedication - often working in challenging environments and for long hours, both of which are physically demanding and requires emotional resilience.
FoodLink is working to support our Aberdeenshire producers by creating new routes to market using short supply chains and also by providing a collaborative distribution system. The objective is to allow the producers more time to do what they are good at .... produce our food!
